BitLife is a text-based life simulator where you make decisions that shape your character's life from birth to death. The browser version captures most of what makes the mobile version compelling: the random events, the career progression, the relationship mechanics, and the dark humor that characterizes the game's writing. Here's how to get the most out of it.

Understanding Your Starting Stats

Every BitLife character is born with four core stats: Happiness, Health, Smarts, and Looks. These are partially random at birth. High Smarts makes academic and professional success easier. High Looks opens certain relationship and career options. Health affects how many random illness events you get. Happiness is affected by most of your decisions. You can't control what you're born with, but you can influence all stats through choices.

School and Education

Going to the library every year is the single most consistent way to raise your Smarts stat. Even characters born with low Smarts can become very smart with consistent library visits throughout school. Good grades require high Smarts, and good grades are needed for university access. University unlocks higher-paying careers, so the library habit pays dividends throughout the entire playthrough.

Choosing a Career

The available jobs depend on your education. Without university, you're limited to entry-level positions. With a degree in a relevant field, you can apply to professional careers in medicine, law, engineering, and more. The highest-paying careers generally require professional school (medical school, law school) after your undergraduate degree. The time investment is worth it — doctor and lawyer salaries in BitLife compound significantly over a long career.

Managing Relationships

Maintaining good relationships with family members and romantic partners requires regular interactions. The game rewards characters who spend time with family, maintain friendships, and treat partners well with better Happiness scores and practical benefits (some family members can help with money in emergencies). Neglecting relationships has consequences — estranged family won't help in later life and unhappy partners eventually leave.

Health Management

Gym visits, healthy diet choices (when offered), and avoiding dangerous activities keep your Health stat high. High Health reduces the frequency of illness events. When you do get sick, always see a doctor — avoiding treatment when you can afford it risks complications. Dental checkups are disproportionately valuable in the game relative to what they cost.

Making Money

Career salary is the primary income source. Real estate investment is the best way to build wealth passively — buy cheap properties, improve them, and sell when prices rise. The stock market in BitLife is volatile and less reliable than real estate. Gambling is high risk and rarely profitable over many attempts. A patient approach of saving aggressively and investing in property is the most reliable path to in-game wealth.
