Run 3 is one of the most beloved browser games ever made. The concept is simple — run through space tunnels without falling into the void — but the game has far more depth than it appears. Here's everything you need to know to improve your runs and unlock more of what the game has to offer.

Understanding the Two Modes

Run 3 has two distinct modes: Infinite Mode and Explore Mode. Infinite Mode is the endless runner where you survive as long as possible in procedurally generated tunnels. Explore Mode is a story-driven series of levels with specific objectives and challenges. Both modes earn you power cells which are the game's currency for unlocking new characters.

Rotating the Tunnel

The tunnel rotation mechanic is what separates good Run 3 players from great ones. When you run along the side of a tunnel, the camera rotates with you. You can use this to effectively change where the floor is. Instead of jumping over a gap, you can run around the side of the tunnel so the gap becomes a wall you walk past. Mastering tunnel rotation turns nearly impossible sections into manageable ones.

The Default Runner

The default character — the gray alien — is well-balanced and a good choice for most situations. Her jump distance is medium, her speed is medium, and she responds predictably to input. Learn the game thoroughly with her before switching to other characters, because every other character's quirks will make more sense once you understand the baseline.

The Skater

The Skater moves faster than the default runner and has a longer jump. This makes him excellent for sections with widely spaced gaps but much harder to control in tight spaces. His extra speed means you have less time to react to obstacles, so he's higher risk and higher reward. Use him in straightforward tunnel sections and switch away from him in dense obstacle areas.

The Lizard

The Lizard can walk on walls. This completely changes how you approach the game because you can stick to any surface in the tunnel, not just the floor. It takes a while to adapt to the disorientation of climbing up the side of the tunnel, but once you're comfortable with it, the Lizard opens up entirely new ways to navigate around obstacles.

Surviving Longer in Infinite Mode

The biggest mistake players make in Infinite Mode is panicking and making erratic inputs. Smooth, deliberate jumps and tunnel rotations beat frantic movements every time. When you see a long gap ahead, start your rotation early rather than trying to jump it at the last moment. The tunnel gives you time to see obstacles coming — use that time.

Collecting Power Cells

Power cells are scattered throughout every tunnel. They're worth collecting because they unlock new characters, each of which adds a new way to experience the game. Don't go out of your way to collect them if it means falling into a gap, but keep an eye out for cells that are on your natural path. Over many runs, you'll accumulate enough to unlock the full roster.
